Paper Flying Dragons

Do you have a "kinchin" lying around the house, looking for something to do?  We do. Fortunately for us, Uncle Jason bought him Paper Flying Dragons for Christmas, and this seemed as good a time as any to give them a go.

"I'm bored' he said.

Quick as a flash, and calling upon my not inconsiderable skills at witty banter, I replied with "Do your Paper Flying Dragons then".

"OK" came the snappy retort.   And so it began.

I swear, not three minutes later came the inevitable "This is too hard for me!".  Sigh.  He'll sit for hours making Minecraft pirate ships on his iPod, but ask him to fold a piece of cardboard and he's stumped.

Here's what he had to work with.

And here is what they looked like when I finished making some.

Here he is, throwing one.

These were pretty easy to put together, so long as you are good at following directions, and they fly very well.  More crafty-oriented kids would probably get a lot of enjoyment from these guys.

Today

National Make A Friend Day - doesn't work on Facebook, they don't like you talking to strangers there, but there's nothing stopping you in real life. Just don't be creepy about it.

Leslie Nielsen was born on this day in 1926.  Here is a tribute to the Canadian comic master.

Whitney Houston died one year ago today, in case you missed it.

Finally, Nelson Mandela was released from prison after 27 years of captivity, dramatically reducing royalty cheques for The Specials.
